Even Now
by Patricia L. Hamilton

When I’m out
what unstoppers
the bottle of spiders
I still carry
and sends them
one by one
down my back:

an ordinary sedan
with tinted windows
idling alone
in a cul-de-sac,
its engine
the deceptive purr
of a cat
biding its time
at a mouse-hole.
