Clumsy
by Andrea L. Alterman

Trips over air, tangles short hair,
slips on stairs, rips new shirts,
ties knots in shoes, misses trash can
from one foot away, walks into
walls with wet paint sign obvious,
always finds holes in ground,
gets lost looking in refrigerator
when hungry, can’t find next door.

Clumsy state lives near rocks
no one sees, swallows cobwebs
dusted down, has no idea how
to avoid making noise, and
never stops walking round
and round, lurking under lights,
being noticed by ketchup bottles.
