Have You Heard the One
by Jerry Bradley
|
a man does not walk into a bar
and will not see the patron
with the duck under his arm
so there is no a joke
and neither comes to harm
another will deign
to ask directions of the farmer
down the lane
and thereby safely travel
unrecognized terrain
still another cannot drive
but will not ask
his neighbor for a ride
nor borrow his mower
or nymphomanic wife
then there’s the man on a date
who likes to play
doctor with his mate
he feels all right
but cannot abide the hour’s wait
the talking dog however rubs his collar
and chases happiness like a car
his lips unbutton with each swallow
though the thousand punchlines mislead
and refuse to say what year the ring got smaller
