What Happens Now?
by Penny Michalski

I am not loved.
You said so.
I heard it loud and clear
Like that first thunderclap splitting the silence
of a summer night’s sky.
Stunned by the stab of your words like
lightning bolts through my heart
When you said I’m a very special friend.
You’re happy I’m in your life.
That means I am not loved.
I thought I was.
For years I was sure.
