Souvenirs of the Spirit
by Charles Levenstein

Mexican altar beaten from bottled beer caps,
Adam and Eve inside praying for rain.
A magnet of Kali to remind me of home.
A turtle postcard to celebrate my birthday.
You thought I was alone here
but I am surrounded by souvenirs of the spirit,
I have decades of help, prayers answered
    or not, prayers defeated
or not, a lode to mine,
a river to pan, or not.
