Moon Light Ride
by Penny Bayless

The moon was a lunatic riding over the hayfields
and our horses walked on
snuffling at shadows, our hearts
and souls were quiet as the air.
The earth in all its stillness heard our prayers,
touched our thoughts and soothed our minds.
One moon light ride. One life time passed.
And you are twenty years in your grave
while I still love you, just as I did then.
So much passion that we shared has been forgotten.
Now, I find the quiet, simple times were proof enough
or our enduring love.
I had such love with you
that peace and passion seemed one and the same.
The meeting of our minds and souls
made our bodies more complete
and fire could not burn the ties,
nor melt the ice that kept the whole world out
and our love in.
The earth, sky, sun, rain,
were mingled in our tangled souls
and now...
I only care to guard your memory well
as I recall that moon light ride..
that lunatic moon.
