A Fatal Improbability
by Zachariah Crutchfield

What are the odds
when someone laughs about an airplane neighbor
a steely glare and unwashed hair?
A serial killer
they’ll chuckle to their friends.
Wonder if my new roommate Evan
chuckled about me?
Imagine! His friends will say
What are the odds?

He found out as he entered my room
found me waiting with my knife
But Evan’s machete
was a surprise.
Impossible!
