Shoe-Box Dropped
by Hillary Lyon

pics scattered all over the floor
faces beneath your bare feet
black and white and faded
color creased some torn and taped

each image a thin piece
of the jigsaw puzzle a jawline
here a girl's shadow there
eyes in sun-squint mouths

opened wide in laughter at a joke long
forgotten a hand blurred in mid-wave
a small dog cuddled like a babe
relatives, friends, and strangers playing

the part of extras on your family vacations
and holiday moments in warm wood-paneled dens
the dreamy nostalgia overlaying the familiar
landscapes lost to time
