Dementia
by Patricia Brodie

Here's his photo,
proudly displayed
in our front hall
all these years.
The changes were so subtle
we didn't notice
how light was fading the colors,
dulling the lines.

What's left is hard to see,
mostly grays and the palest of pastels.

Can you tell if he's still smiling?
