Dare
by Thomas Cochran

Two boys challenge
a train late at night,

something to tell friends
later is all--no more.

But the audience grows;
perfect strangers hear

that one’s desire to prove
himself to himself

and his companion
(who moved in time)

held him too long
between the rails.
