taming
by David Bowles

wild you are and savage snap
how to tame without a muzzle
rot away the fangs with sweet
atrophy the jaws with meek
silent while you grind your claws
to nubs in frustration, howling
until hoarse and ragged and weak
then rise and stride, head high
as you slouch at heel.
