Cold comfort of the in-between
by Anindita Deo

Wedged,
between overwhelming overestimation,
and rankling underestimation,
the mediocrity,
lies low,
unacknowledged,
like a pebble in a shoe,
insidiously,
chaffing away.
Arming you with patience
you never asked for.
Teaching you
Forbearance
you thought you had no use for.
Incessantly
probing,
begging
to be taken
for what it probably
Is.
