Sailboats
by Sander Blome

The fallen father lights scraps of the Times
Under kindling, surrounded by cocktail-
Drinking adults. A beer drinker, below age,
Waits in the basement, afraid.
Afraid of everything. The warmed father,
Another week of beryllium work complete,
Decides his son will be manic-depressive,
Like Mamaw, and his wife’s father.

Financially dependent, unlike his Dad,
(The beryllium boss), the twelve-pack astronaut-
To-be dreams only of
Sailboats.
