Fireflies in March
by Chip Dameron

    We watch
    them wink

    like stars
    at sea

    as we
    blink back

    to play
    midsummer ball

    under lights,
    Dad clapping

    hope from
    the dugout

    while I
    wait for

    a pitch
    to whack

    through the
    black hole

    a firefly
    leaves behind.
