Three Brothers Under Sail
by Jeffrey C. Alfier

    Somewhere twixt harbinger
    and the squall, three men ploughed
    through an invective sea;
    -- pulled upon deranged lines --
    till masts cracked like treason
       in a deepening moan.

    Now, upon calmer seas,
    I have often wondered
    -- weighing anchor again --
    if you lie awake with
    rumors of betrayal...
       as if hatches could sigh.
