Act with Silence
by Nathan A. Baker

In World War II they fought,
Serving gallantly, brave troopers
Of the 25th Field Artillery Battalion,
Fading now; heroics long forgotten

Old men with ghastly memories
Bound like living pages of time
Wrinkled from daily wear
Old soldiers with old battle

Lines marking well the journeys
Roughness, grooves forced by
The hurry, and chiseled by youth’s
Quickness… etched by the pain

Of abandon, facing again the darkness
As twilight waxes and daylight wanes
