Drumbeat For Ezra
by Leslie Woolf Hedley

    Ezra caged
    was evil captured,
although he growled in Harvard Latin.

    No celebration is required
    when racist heroes run out
    of Jews to devour.
    __________That was
the heart of his raging poetry,
    a hate that sprouted weeds
    he mislabeled flowers.
    __________But
    traitorous seedlings stink
    and spread infection in words
    designed as wisdom. He lied.
His words were new as bullets.

    Ezra, you're dead
    as your philosophy.
    __________Sadly,
    you're not the first beast
    or the last.
