Errand
by Jeff Arnett

You send me out for string.
I come back with a nosegay
of ghosts fragrant with whispers,
curling shadows,
invisible thorns,
hand-picked from your dreams.

Later, breathing light
they blossom in dreams,
leave the faint taste of darkness
on your tongue.
When you awake
you will remember nothing.

I promise.
