Picasso Loved The Circus
by Ray Spitzenberger

picasso loved the circus
in paris
so much
he often dressed like one of them
and delighted in being mistaken
for an acrobat
the circus began in italy
eons ago
perhaps it was in his dna
wasn't it the cirque
which motivated his rose period
or was it merely a quirk
harlequin appear again and again
in his oils
and surely cubism was an explosion
of harlequins
no doubt a private joke
