Yellow Leaves on the Siedwalk
by Peter Bloch-Hansen

A bare, bright autumn conversation:
Pacing round and around the block,
Arguing dimensions of what seemed important at the time,
We were caught in a pattern of wet leaves on the sidewalk;
Bright and fragile yellows over
Grey cement,
Random over geometric,
An unequivocal, flat epiphany of mathematics and
The so sudden, miraculous mechanics of the ordinary.
That autumn punch in our esthetic solar plexus posed an answer
That we, unwilling to be humbled, might have endlessly questioned,
But far too far gone in its beauty,
We wandered on,
In silence,
In that suddenly perfect day.
