Sapphire Toes
by Sharon Hudson

Satisfying an afternoon of people watching
after spending the morning bonding with
universal sisters at the nail salon
discussing the importance of regular maintenance
of nails and full body massages
letting the men take care of worldly matters
it's a mess & they created it anyway
    stepping out in full sun
watching an orange plane probably headed toward Corpus
while being here in Dallas with sapphire toes
like a river finding its bed
a plan needs the freedom to develop along its best lines
patient as a lover after WWII
    awaiting her hero's return.
