A True Summer's Day
by Olivia Inwood
|
You saw the ravaged beast
Of the vast Australian outback
You’ve been locked up for a week;
A prisoner to the summer’s
Heat of paranoiac illusions,
Mirages and snakes turning
Into logs everywhere you go
You saw the ravaged beast
Perhaps when you were only two
You were a victim to the
Simulacra of the summer’s
Day and the el Niño
That wouldn’t vanish,
Led astray by the heat
As it tormented you
Saying with its wisdom;
Just stay indoors.
