Failure
by Laurence Musgrove

It’s actually not true
That every day’s a chance
To start all over again.
We wake up in the same
Self we were yesterday
And all the days before.
We’ve still got the same
Heart in constant repair
and a mind going cold.
What’s actually true
About this day is not
The fresh beginning
But the chance to grab
Yourself by the shoulders
And shake yourself awake
Saying, Let’s not make
The same mistakes we
Usually do. Let’s learn
From some new ones.
