The Green Box
by Michael A. Maggiotto

has gaps
in each stenciled letter,
like a sentence without a verb,

holds folded camos,
a bundle of letters,
pictures once taped to his bunk,

waits while his tent flap
snaps in the dry wind,
like an eyelid blinking,

watches wind rivers
wash sand waves
over his footprints,

filling in the gaps.
