The Peaceable Fridge
by Ken Wheatcroft-Pardue

Do not fret.
Leave the refrigerator to its own devices.
The celery will not war with the carrots.
The milks -- both soy and 1% --
will lie quietly as the two proverbial lambs.

The Chinese take-out will not hop
from its box to fight the Vietnamese pho.
Nor will the American cheese carpet bomb
the baba ganoush.
Mustard will live next to mayonnaise.
Peanut butter next to tahini.
And the moldy will dwell next to the fresh
and all will be at peace.
