Settling

a little gold fish
circles
in a transparent bowl
circles
within the limits
of a world he did not make
circles
in a glass trap
that displays his captive self
circles
then finally settles
to the bottom
alone
confined
to what he cannot escape
resigned
to what he must accept
and as he settles
he loses something
that fish by definition must have
