Still Waiting
by Matthew Bono

I hate it here.
I cry but no one is coming.
These bars trap me inside.
Elmo sings me to sleep and
spins in a circle.
I can’t stand up yet.
I can barely roll over.
My brother’s train whistle wakes me.
The big man and little woman
watch him as Buzz Lightyear rescues Woody
on the train tracks.
The flashing lights and kung-fu action
scare me every time.
I cry again, curdling spit and tears.
All I have to hold is my blankie
The big man and little woman are still waiting…
