Imagine a Pasture
by Larry D. Thomas

blanketed a foot deep
with bluebonnets,
highlighted here and there

with Indian paintbrushes.
People it with barefoot nuns
clad in blood-red habits,

lapsed into a moment
of human frailty,
lifting their faces skyward,

pretending they’re members
of the London Bach Choir
backing up The Stones

and belting out the ear-shattering
finale of “You Can’t Always
Get What You Want.”
