Repeat
by Carie Juettner

You sang that song
every damn day
and it annoyed the crap out of me
because I’d never heard the real one
but your version was off key
and stuck on the first verse.

After you were gone
I bought the mp3
and played it on repeat
for hours.

But it wasn’t the same.

I missed your tone deaf voice
your incorrect lyrics
and how you’d smile at me
with just one side of your mouth
as I pounded on your belly with my fists
and begged you to stop.
