Gravity
by Alexander Motyl

Falling leaves do not,
as you might imagine,
remind me of drab endings,
faded memories,
hopeless undertakings,
dashed opportunities,
lost lovings,
unfulfilled dreams,
and roads not taken.
It’s fallen leaves
that remind me
of leavings.
In actuality,
the inexorability
of gravity
makes my heart soar
with levity.
