Inside Me
by Michele Keyes

Ringing silence, beyond temporal sound.
A peaceful place harboring a happiness
no one has seen or felt.
I live here –
but you cannot enter,
without the code.

Your fingers cannot yet trace the path,
your voice needs practice to gain the tone
to unlock the gates and enter
the soft places where I nest.

Few have attempted,
none stayed long enough
to realize where they were.
Understand this…even if you try,
there are no guarantees of access.

Stroke carefully, caress diligently,
practice your song,
all the while knowing –
inside me there is room for you,
love and pleasure.
But you cannot stay.
You cannot have it all.
