The Crows Gather in August

__the clackery of their calls
__count time a gift to open
______________and praise, I say
____but they fuss over hardened shells
__and shout down silence
_______like thwarted children
____we all know cold is coming
_whether we will it or not
______and they remind me
how desperate we can be
