Clean off little goat feet
tread lightly over ancient stratum,
sing a new horizon.
I lie on granite warm and sensuous,
my toes nibbled by tiny guppies
while kingfisher announces a hunt.
Painted bunting calls from topmost branch,
canyon wren warbles in cascade of joy,
summer tanager sings on the good ship lollipop
staking territory in every oak.
Mesquite sway in petticoats of pale green
new colors flow through my body
and mingle with the breeze.
Chant the silence, dance the night,
follow into morning.
